Weʼve raised £18,395 to build a new community hall to serve 8th Chelmsford Scouts, the Melbourne project which runs activities for all ages and other local groups.

    Story

    Looking to the future....

We have already secured two thirds of the funds needed for this new facility from private benefactors and no state support but we are also applying for other donations and grants to make up the balance which will be required to fulfill our goal.

The Hall is no longer fit for purpose and lacks proper insulation and ventilation. Its fabric is worn and it does not have disabled toilets or wheelchair access.

We have considered both repair and rebuild and a decision was made to go ahead with the latter for a variety of economic and practical reasons. By committing to a rebuild, we will have a modern building that will also provide safety, comfort and support to the local community and local activities.

This will be home for 8th Chelmsford Scout group, the many sessions run by the Sisters who lead the Melbourne project including Toddlers, Homework club, Cookery, a Group for older people and also summer fun week. The Rainbow twirlers, Crystal twirlers and the pottery club will also have use of the new hall. Where appropriate we hope to utilise as much of the space and time available for other local clubs and meetings.

We hope the community hall will become a focal point of the area that will bring people together for social as well as educational opportunities in what is one of the most deprived areas of Chelmsford.

We will however fall short in our funding but we are hoping that we can make up that balance through the generosity of many people making smaller or larger donations.

The appeal to raise the funds to build this new facility is named 'Looking to the Future' which is exactly what we are all doing and we hope that this new building will serve our local community for many decades to come.

The community hall in Melbourne is a hub of incredibly important activity for children and their families in the local community. So wonderful to see it's going to get even better! Good luck!
