Weʼve raised £213 to help Jamaica's abandoned animals by Running Birmingham's Great Run on 16.10.16

    Story

In a country like Jamaica where the cost of living is high, and wages extremely low it is no wonder animals often become secondary to the demanding needs of the family. Many dogs are feral and live off scraps thrown to them from tourists or their owners. Vet fees are expensive and so most animals go untreated resulting in often terrible infections and death.

Although attitudes to animals are very slowly changing it isn't happening fast enough for animals. There are old animal welfare laws in place in Jamaica but many animal abusers go unpunished as these laws are rarely enforced.

I am raising money to ship food supplies (horse, dog, cat) collars, leads and cages for transportation. Horse equipment to include numnahs, buckets, reins, head collars, grooming equipment etc

I have recently shipped two barrels to Jamaica full with supplies but it will not be enough as I also want to distribute some in the community and set up feeding stations. Once I am resident in Jamaica I plan to create a sanctuary on our land for neglected and injured animals. A safe haven where animals can just live free from harm and not wonder when they will next see a meal.

Racehorses in Kingston are abandoned somewhere in Portmore when they no longer serve the purpose of making their owners lots of $s. I want to create space for at least two horses that can spend their post- racing days in peace surrounded with love

A 15kg-20kg bag of dried dog food is approximately £40.00 in Jamaica. When purchased in bulk I can pay approximately £8.00 for 15kg bag UK. This cost id far too high for the average working Jamaican.

it doesn't matter how small your donation is because it only costs between 30p-40p to feed a small to medium dog in Jamaica so donating as little as £2.80 will feed a small to medium sized dog for one week.

Thank you to those who sponsored my 13.1 mile half marathon to raise funds towards the food and supplies for the opening of Black Beauty's Animal Sanctuary. This amount would feed a small to medium sized dog in Jamaica for 80 days. The plan is we open with twelve months supply of dog food for 30 dogs and horse food for two horses just to begin with. Again, thank you to those who cared! My next run is the Birmingham 10K April 2017

3 weeks to go..3 weeks to improve..3 weeks to probably make a complete ass of myself! 2 weeks from now I will run my usual route twice which will =13 miles. Our packs including our numbers are on their way. This will be such a milestone as I really am not one of nature's natural runners. Whilst my improvement is 100% on what it was, 13 miles is huge for me! My right knee needs a support and I need new trainers. To keep up-to-date with the half marathon, check out their Facebook page here; https://www.facebook.com/greatbirminghamrun/?fref=ts

My first run after a three week break due to visiting Jamaica.......and it wasn't as bad as I expected. It still took my breathing 30 minutes to regulate itself and I thought my time was slower but it actually wasn't. Sunday I plan to run further and spend next week getting my fitness back to where it was 3 weeks ago. The run is now only 4 weeks away so I have some serious work to do.
