The residents of Peterculter and beyond have long since enjoyed their mythical association with Roy Roy McGregor signified by a statue of the legend on a rock at the side of Culter Burn's gorge.
The first statue was a ship's figurehead from the whaling ship "Rob Roy" and was erected circa 1850 then being replaced in 1865. The third replacement was carved from a log of yellow pine and unveiled in 1926 which lasted till 1991 when the fourth statue was erected and proudly stood until it was retired in 2016.
Rob Roy Preservation Trust, which is a non profitable organisation, have recently commissioned David J Mitchell to create a replacement statue but there are considerable replacement costs involved which we as a community must raise.
The statue will be cast in a composite material less susceptible to environmental conditions plus by incorporating a lifting structure to the mould, this will make maintenance easier as the years roll on.
Any contributions you can give to this worthy cause will be gratefully received and all monies made will go towards putting Rob Roy back on the rock where he belongs amidst Peterculter's great heritage.
