Story
Aberystwyth Beach Buddies is a community volunteer association. Our aim is to recover all lost plastic polluting north Ceredigion from land, coast and sea, whilst restricting and reducing it's loss. For our ocean's to recover there health, we all need to recover the lost plastic.
The group has been cleaning beaches in north Ceredigion since 2014, but in June of 2018 Aberystwyth Beach Buddies changed, becoming an unincorporated association with a management committee a constitution and the appointment of various roles to volunteer trustees.
This evolution has been to fulfill our ambition of an Ocean Plastic Deficit in North Ceredigion. We are currently developing campaigns and strategy's which will allow us to achieve this goal.
By targeting "up stream" inland plastic pollution sources and "off shore" plastic pollution with recovery actions involving local communities and groups as well as engaging with some of the 2.7 million tourists that visit Ceredigion. Our ambition is to recover more plastic from our ocean, then we can be attributed with putting in. Hence, achieving possibly the words first "Ocean Plastic Deficit" Our campaigns will aim to reduce plastic loss through education and each and every person that participates in an Aberystwyth Beach Buddies "plastic pick" will take the message of "Ocean Recovery" back home with them.
Up coming Campaigns and Actions
First "Off Shore" clean - Kayakers and SUP's cleaning coast that can't be reached by foot
First "Up-Stream" clean - To litter pick the lay by's along the A44 running in to Aberystwyth.
"Be more Beach Buddy" Bi-lingual best beach practice poster, already Borth YHA and Two Major Caravan parks waiting to display these.
"Beach Buddy Bunkers" Equipment Stations to be trialed at local business's for ad hoc litter picking by residents and tourist's.
The money we're hoping to raise with this crowd funding will be used for all of the above, from the production and printing of campaign materials, for administration costs needed to protect our volunteers with the proper insurance and safe guarding protections, to the equipment and resources we physically need to recover plastic from all the different area's of our county.
It would best allow us to encourage a healthy Ocean Recovery.
We do hope you can help.
