Story
James was born on 11/07/18 weighing 4lb 8oz. He was born at liverpool womens hospital, james needed open heart surgery to fix his hypoplastic left heart. As james was underweight we were told that he fouldnt have the surgery at the time but would be able to have it once he put the weight on. On day 15 of james’ life our world came crashing down when we were told we would have to go down the pallative care route with james and he could either die in hospital or at a hospice. We decided to go down the hospice route, james suprised us all by living an extra 3 weeks so we decided to get a second opinion.
We then went to birmingham childrens with james where they offered him surgery. James had his surgery done and all went well, a few days later james had his chest closed and thats when thing went wrong. He went into cardiac arrest and they did emergency surgery and put him on an ECLS machine (life support). 10 days later james came off the machine but was still requiring breathing support from being intubated.
James eventually got extubated and then a few days later james got an infection in his blood and his oxygen levels in his blood were going too low so the decision was made to re-intubate him and hopefully to have a cardia catheter done.
Weve been given the option to either put james through more surgery where he may just suffer more if it doesnt work or to go back down the pallative care route.
These have been the hardest 10 weeks of our lives but we love james with all of our heart and anything will help
