    Story

On Saturday 4th May 2019 I am taking on my biggest challenge yet, the TP100. It is a 100 mile run from Richmond in London to Oxford along the River Thames.

Why? well because i’m clearly insane, but I’m also raising money for a very worthy cause as detailed below.

Any donation you can make, however small, would be so gratefully received by the pupils of Regent Rural Primary School, Regent Village, Freetown in Sierra Leone.

    Thank you so much!

    Adam

Three years ago a British schoolteacher revisited Sierra Leone, the country where she was born, and was struck by the lack of youthful joy and anticipation that one would expect to see in most British pupils on their way to school. Talking to their teachers, she learned that many only attended classes sporadically and there was a major problem in engaging their attention throughout the day.

With her knowledge of how schools in England have identified hunger as the root of these problems, and how so many have therefore set up free meals for those who need them, resulting in a big improvement in attendance, concentration and academic achievement, she was determined to set up a breakfast club for the local school in Regent, Freetown which has 400 pupils. Financed initially by herself and her husband, the club began to function and has since developed into a lunch club. Friends of Sierra Leone have also added their support.

Over the past three years the club has provided for pupils between the ages 3 - 11 a meal of individually wrapped soft bap with various fillings and an orange juice drink. The result was improved attendance and achievement. It has also helped with pupils’ social interaction as well as their education.

The lunch bap and orange drink is prepared at the school by parents and teachers on a voluntary basis and served on the school compound.

As you can see from these images, we have already visited Sierra Leone recently and launched the breakfast club A revolutionary but essential initiative that these children desperately need and with your help we really can change the lives of an entire generation.

TP100 race report part 4 By mile 85 the pain in my calf had me down to a slow jog/walk but I knew I was still on for getting the 100 miles in one day buckle if I just kept going... I prayed, and the prayers of many got me to the finish line. Thank you Lord, and thank you all that prayed and helped me through ❤️

TP100 race report part 3 Changing my footwear for the night run turned out to be a very wise decision as deep into the night I tripped on something that almost had me kissing the dirt.. I managed to stay on my feet but I overstretched the ligaments in my calf😖. The night time temperatures were very low, frost began to form and the mist coming off the river was like dry ice. I had to keep putting my hands up my running top to get some warmth from my body.

TP100 race report part 2 At the 51 mile aid station at half way I was greeted by wife and support crew with a very welcome cup of tea! 😀 They helped me get out of my Vibram five fingers and into conventional running shoes. As much as I love the Vibrams, I was going into the night on very hard uneven terrain and the possibility of stubbing my toes on roots or rock was very real. I left Henley on Thames flying the Sierra Leone Flag as a reminder of why I was doing this!
