    Story

Jeannie is an inspiring, Zambian woman suffering from AIDS and cancer. Her health has not stopped her from helping many people. She runs four projects - an orphanage, a school for vulnerable children, an HIV woman's group and her most recently started project is another school for the children in her community who can't afford a thing. The teachers are older children from Jeannie's orphanage who have finished school. I did try to teach there and I loved it but it was too difficult for many reasons - you can find out about it on my blog; https://laliinzambia.wordpress.com/. Instead, I thought I could help with just simply getting food for the school children which Jeannie struggles to afford and sometimes has no food to give and the children have nothing at school and nothing at home.

Whilst I taught in Zambia last year, I made sure they had a healthy meal everyday by supplying the food. Because of this, I know where to get the best prices, best deals and the best food for those prices.

If I spend over 2,000 Kwacha/£200 on mille/maize I will get an extra 10 25kg bags for free. 40 25kg bags a term/3 months will be enough for 250 children and 30 bags costs 3,000 Kwacha/£300. The maize is a carbohydrate so that should fill them up and give them energy. They also need protein which is found in meat, which is too expensive so I go to the city market and buy beans which also contains protein. 50kg is as much as the car can carry, so I buy that for 1,000 kwacha/£100 and it lasts for half a term. and this gives children the strength and energy they need.

To keep the children healthy, they need their vitamins and minerals which are in the vegetables that Jeannie buys from a local farm that give Jeannie special deals and that costs 400 kwacha/£40 a week.

this school was built and funded by volunteers from all over the world. they can't afford to feed the school children as well, when they still have so much more building to do. That is why I am trying to help with funding for the food. Children cannot concentrate in their lessons without energy and all they can think of is their starving tummies. They can't have energy without food! please donate!
