Story
Alan my cousin, was involved in a motorbike accident caused by a negligent driver pulling out on him, leaving both him & his bike meters away from each other. Luckily Alan survived, but it has not come at an easy price. It is a price that I am reaching out to you all for help with.
My dearest Cousin Alan...
A motorcyclist since I can remember; when you would be working in my granddad's shop polishing the black shiny Yamaha's. In recent days from only riding a moped, a vehicle pulls out without looking, landing you and your bike metres away from each other. Your bike probably not even usable as scraps, although Cambodians can use many scrap materials.
I can't use Alan as scrap materials; I need him mended so he can come home. In July last year he made a dream of mine come true. Now many of you may know about my life and some may not - I had a double lung transplant that has thus far been saving my life.
I have had many dreams, and my biggest was to visit Australia. One day I picked up the phone and asked Alan how he felt about his littlest cousin visiting him. He said 'YES'. Just like that, I was soon on the plane. Like myself, Alan's life has been a roller coaster and this trip, well it has given him experiences beyond his wildest dreams, and believe me, they can be wild. He has become a better person since travelling and I know he has touched many lives, as some of those I got to meet in Oz.
When it comes to our health, we know how precious life can be and life isn’t to be taken for granted. For each breath we take, for each smile where a memory is made, for each friend that is new and old, we keep them in our hearts for the rest of our journey on this earth and I am so very thankful Alan’s journey continues.
Unfortunately however, Alan is stuck in hospital receiving the best care (thankfully) as I have seen how some hospitals are in Cambodia, so again I am very thankful. Subsequently though, there is a price. A price that has no value on Alan’s health, but one in which Alan simply cannot afford on his own. Since the accident, his savings have slowly whittled down by paying for his surgery, continued hospital treatments, medication and soon, a flight home. Consequently, due to the nature of his break, the air pressure on plane means that he cannot fly home immediately.
I’m sure some thoughts would be, why didn’t he have insurance? Well the small print comes next… and sufficed to say I was victim to this also! - When I was in Darwin, Australia a kangaroo jumped out in front of us. Little did I know ‘any accident that happens in which a motorized vehicle is involved the policy becomes void’. Lucky for me there was not a lot of damage and no hospital treatment was needed. Alan however, lucky to be alive, but the cost has and still is, is enormous.
So my plea to you - I need my cousin home to carry on receiving the best care but from the NHS like I did when they saved my life. I am asking for as little, or as much as you can spare, albeit $2 or £2, Dong or any other currency, if you can spare just a little, it will most certainly help with him coming home quicker and his bill reduced or even settled.
Please help him come home by giving a little, like he has done for me, and for the rest of us and those whose hearts he is yet to touch.
Please though, If for whatever reason you find yourself unable to contribute, don't feel bad, however, I do have another request! :-)
- One that will help significantly with his well-being. Please could you post a memory, a photo, or even both, as this will encourage for a speedy recovery AND it will speak volumes for rehabilitation in a holistic way.
Here is mine!
Touch down from a few hours of landing in OZ! The best thing I have ever achieved on my own! Owe it to you Alan that I did it! Thanks always. Unforgettable Memories Made x

6 years ago'We'd like to Thank you ALL for your support so far. We are so humbled for reaching out to help Alan & by sharing this page for us to get him home safely. Triston, Alan's brother from another mother. They go back to their raving days in 1997. Alan loves this guy to 'Infinity & Beyond'! Anonymous donations, WOW! Incredible. And last, but by no means least the lovely Annalisa who Alan went to school with at nunnery wood. This photo was taken in NewZealand & never forgotten are those wonderful people he met whom will remain with him forever...
