In August 2019 I will be volunteering in Vietnam as part of a two week placement where I will have the opportunity to work and experience how their maternity care works.

During these few weeks I will have the opportunity to work alongside their specialists and learn how they handle a lack of resources in their clinical settings. Not only will I be observing their midwifery care but I will also have the opportunity to work with infant paediatric care which is something completely new to me. This opportunity will let me see how they handle complications in care, diverse cultural attitudes and unfamiliar clinical practices.

This experience will also let me see the cultural difference Vietnam has to offer such as their traditions surrounding birth, for example fussing around a new born or the mother is seen to attract bad luck and spirts whereas in British culture it is seen as a norm. The amount I am hoping to raise will help to cover towards the costs of me taking part in this unique opportunity such as flights, accommodation, transport and a percentage which goes towards the hospital I shall be working with, if there is an extra money raise above my target I hope to donate this to the hospital and local community in order to help them obtain extra resources they may need.

In return for any funds/support I receive I will be writing an article of my experiences including the lead up to my departure, my experiences whilst undertaking this amazing opportunity and what I learn/gain from the experience.
