    Story

Late last year, during the very wet weekend in October when Storm Ophelia arrived, we found that our beautiful, old lead roof had been stolen overnight off the North Aisle of our wonderful, historic church. During the storm, considerable rainfall soaked the exposed roof, right through into the plaster & lath ceiling below and damaging furniture and our friendly children's area. Thankfully, our stone font underneath was unaffected.

We acted quickly and within a day of this shocking discovery, local builders had made immediate repairs to prevent further water getting into the building. We covered the external roof with sheeting and battens and the internal ceiling paper has been stripped allowing the ceiling to dry out carefully to minimise further damage. Just to make these repairs has already cost £3000.

Our local community has responded in their usual fantastic fashion - everyone raising money in many, many ways with the total from villagers reaching nearly £5000. It's amazing when you consider only 650 people live here!

Now, we need your help to raise the rest of the money. Repairs are estimated at £40,000 with only £15,000 coming from insurance. Please will you help us raise £10,000. We are also busy applying for grants as well and we will keep this page updated with our progress.

Perhaps you have visited our church while you've been in Wiltshire? Many come to see it on their travels as it dates back to early Norman times around the 12th century. We are also very close to the Kennet and Avon Canal and many historic landmarks, such as Avebury, Stonehenge and the White Horses. Of course, we're also famous for our fabulous Rock Concert at the Kings Arms pub every year.

Thank you in advance for all your help in helping us to restore our beautiful church.

Please accept this donation from the family of Brian Ball. It is a thank you for all the lovely help we received in the church and the village hall from many people on the day of Brian's funeral.
