Rural communities all over the world want the power to lift themselves out of extreme poverty. This autumn, I will be travelling to Nicaragua in an attempt to empower these people, with the help of other fellow volunteers.

How will I do that?

As part of a Global Brigades - Business volunteering team, I will help locals without access to financial services better understand and run small businesses. I will provide guidance and counseling in how to create a long-term strategy. Along with the other Brigades (Medical, Engineering, Law, and Clean Water), we aim to address as many problems as possible during our 7-days stay and make a lasting impact on that community.

Why is this important?

Global Brigades is helping people help themselves. By securing immediate financial stability, disadvantaged families are able to plan for a better future in turn being more likely to send their kids to school and ensure a better life for them.
