    Story

As many people know, my dad Walter fell seriously ill whilst on holiday in Australia June 2018. As a result of this sudden and devastating illness he had problems with the blood supply to his lower legs, feet and fingers. In August he had amputations to both his forefeet and some of his fingers. After months in Australia he was able to fly home and be cared for in the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh before eventually getting home in November last year. He is now patiently waiting on his legs, feet and fingers healing but has months of muscle strengthening, balance retraining and orthotic shoe fitting ahead of him.

This bike will give him the chance to use his trunk and leg muscles once he is able to put a little weight through his feet . With moonboots or something similiar he will be able to ‘walk’ with this bike and rebuilt the strength in his legs prior to being able to fully weightbear, wear suitable shoes and walking again.

He is normally such an active man, spending time with his grandkids, singing and playing for the old folks and active in the golf club, church and masonic. He has dealt with his disability with optimism and courage and yet still tries to help everyone else first - i really think that he deserves every opportunity to help his recovery and i believe that this bike will be a huge benefit.

Everybody in his circle of family and friends have all wanted to help and so if anyone would like to donate towards this, we would so very grateful.

Just to thank you all again for your donations. My dad is currently in the Astley Ainslie hospital getting valuable rehabilitation. He has a set of orthotic shoes and has taken his first steps at long last. His Alinker bike is in the hospital with him so that he can enjoy getting out in the fresh air whilst rebuilding some muscle!
