    Story

Our sons Elijah and Josiah were born 22nd September 2018. It was an absolutely joyous day but also a very challenging one, as the boys were 28 weeks and 1 day gestation; they were three months premature. Due to this, they were unable to breathe or feed on their own and were prone to infection and many other complications. The first few weeks were crucial, as we waited for the various tests to let us know what, if any, complications may appear. Elijah and Josiah both spent time in three separate hospitals. Sometimes, when specialist input was needed, the twins were separated in two different hospitals at the same time. This was an incredibly traumatic time for us as a family and had it not been for the NHS the twin's care would have cost us several thousands of pounds.

Although the NHS is publicly funded, we all know about the shortages. I was surprised to see how much private fundraising goes on behind the scenes, as the budgets fall short of the equipment needed.

Elijah and Josiah are thriving and thank God, are healthy baby boys. Our heart goes out to the parents who care for their babies in hospital-- we know how they feel. We would like to raise funds for our local neonatal facility: Meadowbank Ward in Bedford Hospital. Our sons spent over two months of their journey at this facility. The incredible staff cared for our children and supported us during those difficult days and nights.

Our precious boys have been gifted a chance at life. We are so grateful to God and the NHS. In turn, we want to help other local families by making their experience that little bit more bearable, when so much is out of their control.

Whether it is breast pumps, apnea monitors or breathing apparatus, we have experienced how this equipment makes a difference to individuals. We were often shocked at how expensive equipment is. On occasions, babies have to stay at a hospital much further from their home if the right machines are not available.

Please donate, any amount will make a difference. Thank you in advance, Leon and Anthea.
