The Bates Family take on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro to support MaaChild!

MaaChild is a small, local charity that work to champion and support underprivileged children from the Maasai communitiy who otherwise could not afford to go to high school.

In Kenya, it costs about £1500 to support a child through 4 years of education including food, books and anything else they might need to go to school. But this cost is often too high for many families so many children are forced to work with their parents or are married into other families.

We’ve got the gear, we’ve been training, walking, running and going to the gym. Now there’s only 4 weeks to go before the start of our big climb!

We will be climbing for 8 days to reach the summit, camping each night, drinking questionable water and dealing with a lack of facilities!
