Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Steve had sat in the same spot, cold and alone, for about 7 months with nothing but a small bag of possessions, I had walked past him most days but never once had he asked me for anything. Then one day I saw on social media that a nice gesture is to find an old bag you don't use, fill it with things that may serve a person in need and then give it to them. I immediately thought of Steve, filled a bag with warm clothes, food, a book and a card with a note to let him know i respected him alongside a small amount of money.

I nervously walked to where I usually saw him and asked if I could sit with him for a minute. For the next 20 minutes we had a lovely chat, he inspired me with the mentality he takes to the position he finds himself in, and I learned of the unfortunate set of circumstances that led to him being without a home. I also learned that Steve doesn't drink, take drugs (other than the odd cigarette that occasionally gives him great comfort) and he never asks anyone for anything.

Steve has a professional qualification and a job available to him, without a home the job isn't an option however. Steve has been pro-active in speaking with charities to see if they can help and one such charity has agreed to cover half of the deposit he needs for the accommodation available to him. That still leaves him needing just over £700, where that money will come from he has no idea. His daily task is currently to somehow be given enough money to eat and possibly get a roof over his head to sleep. There is a local shelter that helps other people in need but he has to queue from 2pm and there is no guarantee, so he chooses to be in control of his destiny by sitting on the streets hoping for kind donations.

Steve doesn't deserve to be where he finds himself and he needs help. Most people don't know of misfortune and bracket him unworthy of their time or conversation. In sharing his story I hope to change his life by helping him get back into accommodation, from there he is confident he can get his life back on track, I believe him. If anyone can spare the smallest of donations it would be incredible, I will raise this money and I am making my own donations accordingly, the quicker I can do it the sooner Steve stops sleeping in fear of his life and can get back to where he deserves to be.

Thank you for anyone who reads, shares or donates, I greatly appreciate your time, thought, engagement and or kindness. The world needs more people like you.

Hi everyone, I went with Steve to his new accommodation and paid his deposit today! The moment that will stay with me was when I asked him if he needed anything more, he replied "Ben, I have everything I need right here". He is off to the job centre on Monday where he says he will have no problem finding a job back in construction (where his expertise lie), so life starts again from him from now. Thank you again for everyone who helped me with this, you're all very special people and you've all helped change someones life. Massive love 2 all x

Wow, I originally said to Steve that it may take a few weeks but that we would get there eventually, I think we've done it in something like 5 days!! I am seeing Steve later today to get him into the accommodation ASAP, the cold right now is unbearable & his brother has got quite sick. Going through this process has given me so much added faith in humanity, its a beautiful feeling, thank you to you all for giving this to me. You are all wonderful people and the world is a better place for people like you. Lets keep sharing the kindness . TY

Hi everyone, I am so touched by the donations to this. On my way home I saw Steve & posted a video of our chat on my Insta stories (I'd like to share it here but it doesn't seem possible) where you can hear his gratitude. To all of you who have helped, a huge thank you, I have a feeling we will get Steve back into a home very soon which will be something special. In his words, it will change his life, without us, he genuinely doesn't know what he will do. So once again, a huge thank you, I hope all you kind people have a wonderful wkd xx
