What is the World Scout Jamboree?

The World Scout Jamboree is a Scouting Jamboree of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, typically attended by several tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world, aged 14 plus.

The first World Scout Jamboree was organized by The Boy Scout Association in London. With exceptions for the war years, it has been organized approximately every four years, in the more recent years by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), in different locations over the world. The 21st World Scout Jamboree in 2007 was held in Hylands Park, Essex, United Kingdom, and celebrated the Centenary of Scouting. The 22nd World Scout Jamboree was at Rinkaby in Sweden , and the most recently the 23rd World Scout Jamboree was at Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City in Japan. The next World Scout Jamboree will be in United States.

This years "Unlock a New World" theme is to reflect the new adventures, cultures and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the 12-day event held on a continent many refer to as the “New World” in North America.

The UK Contingent - My Role!

The Jamboree is made up of Contingents from all over the globe!

The UK Contingent will be made up of participants, their Unit Leaders and International Service Team.

I will be going to the Jamboree as part of the International Support team (IST) these people are the Volunteer Jamboree staff. As a member of the IST, I will be working with the rest of the UK Contingent to deliver a fantastic experience for the young people attending the Jamboree and ensure their development, whilst learning new skills as part of my own development.

As you can imagine there is a lot of work involved in running a camp with tens of thousands of people attending. Everything from food to the activities, to support or events needs organising and running. Without the IST volunteers, the camp simply wouldn't run.

I could be involved in any part of the Jamboree, although I do get to express my interest. I would love and hope to be part of the Stadium events staff. In the 12 days the camp is on, there will be 2 huge festival type stadium events. I have always loved drama and being on stage, the idea of standing in front of tens of thousands of people may daunt some people, but for me It would be an amazing opportunity .

What will my donation do to help?

For me to make the huge journey to and from West Virginia, take part in the Jamboree itself, and the other events involved like the post event in Washington DC, my own kit and tent..etc. I must raise a massive £3000. (approx)

The fees include all of the things we could possibly need for our trip, like insurance and equipment..etc.

    Why should I donate?

Not only does you donation help me on this incredible journey, but by helping me your helping thousands of young people and scouts all over the globe take part in an epic world event.

Every Jamboree has a theme, and this time the theme is Unlock A new World!

Here is some more information on what your donation could be helping scouts all over the world do at the 24th World Scout Jamboree!

Discovery of the New World will be met with open arms as Scouts step out of their comfort zones and into the mixing bowl that is North American culture. Guests will leave with a wider view of the world, a deeper understanding of North America, and a renewed commitment to Scouting as a whole. When Scouts join together to Unlock a New World, they give themselves the chance to start over as members of the global community and to work together for mutual gains that improve everyone’s situation

Why the 24th World Scout Jamboree for me?

Scouting has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’m the fourth generation of Scouts in my family, with my Dad, Grandad and Great Grandad, being Group Scout Leaders now and in the past. Ive been brought up with Scouting and share the same love for it as my family does.

    Left to Right

Allan, current Group Scout Leader and my Dad.

Fred, former Group Scout Leader and my Grandad.

My scouting roots come from them and has been part of my life from a very young age!

Me at one of my very first Scout Camps at around 2 years old!

None of my family have had the opportunity to go to a World Scout Jamboree, which is the biggest Scout event there is, and is a brilliant way to take my scouting experience further.

Like them, I am passionate about working with children and young people and about what scouting can do for young people, and older people for that matter!

I myself benefited from scouting greatly, when I was younger I suffered from bullying at school which affected me a lot. Scouting helped boost my self-esteem and confidence and has made me the person I am today. It gave me a sense of belonging and allowed me to meet an amazing set of people who are now my scouting family and will be part of my life for years to come!

My scouting family at our Christmas party last year.

I love meeting new people and love embracing culture, I like learning about different ways of life and this is the perfect event for that. Not only do I get to experience the different cultures at the Jamboree, but I get to meet people who share my passion for scouting as well.

As you can see from the World Scout Jamboree 2019 Contingent map, there are many countries participating in the Jamboree. An unbelievable opportunity to fully experience and embrace culture and share scouting!

I would really love for this amazing opportunity to go to the Jamboree and experience all the amazing things that come with it, as well as helping others to do so as well. But can’t do it without your help!

Whether it is £1 or £20 you can spare to help my adventure to the 24th World Scout Jamboree, I really do appretiate any and all help!

    Thank you very much!
