    Story

We are determined to create a garden of remembrance dedicated to the Servicemen and Servicewomen of our villages.

High Valleyfield, Newmills and Torryburn are integrated and close-knit communities whose residents hold Servicemen and women in high esteem. We as a community have provided the country with a significant number of service personnel over the decades. Considering the size of the community (historically a mining community), the service personnel to civilian ratio spoke for itself. As another example; an entire centre page spread in a national newspaper was dedicated to the community. This displayed 12 people from the community who were located in one war zone at the same time!

The community has always felt it is very sad indeed that we have no memorial to gather at or indeed to reflect personally. Indeed, we are proud of our heritage and we maintain The Pit Disaster Memorial is of the utmost importance to the villages. We as a voice for the community feel that a public Garden of remembrance would compliment the existing Pit Disaster memorial. In the absence of an outdoor public Memorial dedicated to ur service personnel, we endeavour to build one in their honour. Albeit to commemorate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice but also to those who have served or continue to do so.

By supporting us, we can raise enough money to create this lasting legacy in time for the Great War 101st Anniversary on the 11th November 2019. We feel this is an opportunity for the whole community to come together and create something we can all be proud of.

We are very optimistic as local community leaders are right behind our appeal! The memorial will be positioned on the green, midway between the Chapel and the Bus Stop In Valleyfield Avenue. However, we need to raise enough money to fund this project and £10000 is what we aim for. In spirit, were already there, but without your support the task is impossible . . . . . .

Please give generously to help accomplish this together.

    THREE VILLAGES, TWO LEGACIES, ONE GOAL . . . . .

    In addition . . . . .Fundraising Efforts. Congratulations to . . .

We aim to build a garden of remembrance where ALL villagers can reflect/relax or commune. The absence of a public memorial accessible to young and old alike is very sad indeed. However, we have this once in a lifetime opportunity to come together and make this vision a reality.
