After volunteering my time in orphanages here in Northern Thailand, I have observed and learned that the children who eventually return to their villages (around the average age of 16) generally begin working in agriculture or as cheap labour hire. At this vulnerable stage they can also be lured into human trafficking and sex trade workers. To break this cycle children can be exposed to English/ Thai translated books in order to increase their literacy and numeracy. Generationally speaking, this will empower those participants to have the awareness of the options available to them (in reference to further education and employment opportunities). Introducing English/Thai books to the children at a young age will raise literacy levels and prepare the kids for mainstream education and/or employment options
