I was recently contacted by a young man, Mezgebu Bogale desperate to help his little sister who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. 4 years ago, at the age if 16, she began to experience persistent headaches and severe vomiting. The family are poor and cannot afford to pay for the treatment needed to save her young life. She has a brain MRI and CT scan both showing an advanced brain tumor with hydrocephalus for which a VP shunt was inserted to manage the hydrocephalus and the family used all the money they had to pay for surgery for the cancer at the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Abeba Ethiopia. The operation was not successful and she was left with facial and abducent nerve palsy. This means that she now has a facial deviation and can not move her eyes laterally. Sadly neurosurgeons in Ethiopia have said that the cancer is beyond their capacity to heal and advised that the family take her to India but this costs money that neither the family nor their community can have so we decided to try justgiving.

Dear Mezgebu
Your sister requires surgery to remove the tumor and we may have to follow this up by radiation and chemotherapy depending on the biopsy report.
The earliest that we can operate will be in the last week of November 2017. If you need a letter of invitation to come to Vellore please send your details to my secretary Mrs
Revathy who will give you an invitation letter.
The total cost of surgery of surgery including all expenses will be about USD 5500/- and you will need to be here for 2 weeks. The cost of radiation therapy will be about USD 3500/-
