A group of 10 students and staff from Broomhill Bank School in Rusthall will be travelling to South Africa in October 2018 to work with schools in the Tyume Valley.

With the support of the school eight students, all of whom have significant communication/interaction difficulties such as autism, have successfully completed or are currently participating in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award at Gold level. A Gold DofE award is a significant achievement for any student, and to enable these exceptional students to use and further develop some of the skills gained during their DofE participation the school has linked with the Tyume Valley Schools charity.

This UK-based charity has offered the students the opportunity to provide practical work and support to pre-school and primary age children in the schools that they support in South Africa. Amongst other activities the students will be undertaking practical gardening work, helping with play and domestic support in pre-schools and supporting sporting activities in primary schools.

During 2018 the students are organising a series of fund raising events so that they can provide additional resources to the South African schools. These include cake sales, Run Runs, Lego Exhibitions and more
