Story
I am a Registered Nurse, and volunteered in Calais "The Jungle" with refugees in 2016 before the camp was demolished. Whilst there I treated everything from torture wounds, tear gas burns and injuries from rubber bullets, TB, chicken pox, burns, orthopaedic injuries, coughs and colds, UTIs, and scabies, alongside children and adults with PTSD, OCD and an incident of trauma-induced psychosis. We also had some medical emergencies, including a child with an intercranial bleed from a traumatic head-injury, and an elderly woman with suspected diabetic ketoacidosis. Myself and my partner are returning to France with a team of medics, to Paris this time, where there are over 3000 refugees living homeless. As nurses, doctors, paramedics and first-aiders we hope to offer healthcare alongside emotional care to refugees - It is not uncommon that they offer to share their stories, inviting us into their tent for tea. Their generosity is regularly overwhelming, despite the dire circumstances in which they live.
All money raised will go towards buying medical supplies to help us give healthcare to vulnerable refugees and their families. Even small donations will make a difference, as a packet of paracetamol costs just 40p, but can be used to offer relief from pain, fevers, and the emotional distress that they might cause.
Thank you
