    Story

Right I would just like to let you all know that I have entered the Beverley 10k 2019 and will be doing so in loving memory of two fantastic gentleman who are sadly not with us anymore.

I will be hoping to raise funds for two charities on behalf of and in memory of these two.

The first person I will be running for is my

    Uncle kelvin.

It is ten years this year since kelvin had a double lung transplant so I will be hoping to raise funds for the freeman heart and lung transplant association.

Kelvin was a truly great man with whom I have fond memories. His intelligence was always super impressive and he was the one you wanted on your team for trivial pursuit. His intelligence and clever wit and sense of humour meant if you got into a winding up contest with him you were sure to lose every time. I only wish he could still be here today as I have no doubt we would have so much to talk about these days as I’ve grown to be interested in the same music and cultures he was massively into. Particularly the mod/weller scene, it will be an honour to run this 10k in his memory.

The second man I will be running this 10k in memory of is our close family friend who we lost so shockingly recently. Andy brown.

Andy was a truly truly great man. Gentle. Caring. Inspiring. Really one of the nicest men I have ever come across.

Andy was an incredible athlete his accomplishments and willingness to compete at the highest level he could was nothing short of inspirational. He competed at the world firefighter games and at the indoor British rowing championships. The rowing championships will be in my head throughout the run as an early memory of Andy is going with my dad to the nec in Birmingham To watch Andy compete.

His performance was exceptional and I remember seeing how hard he pushed himself and realising for the first time what it really takes to be a top level athlete.

The other half of any funds I can raise will go to Sight support HEY where Andy worked as a social EYES coordinator and ran the social and leisure activities programme there.

As SocialEYES Coordinator at Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire, Andy Brown was responsible for the development and running of SocialEYES; our leisure and activity programme.

The programme not only offered leisure activities and experiences for people with visual impairments, but lead to the development of support networks and friendships, the impact of which spread way beyond the activities themselves.

The success of the programme was in no small way due to Andy's enthusiasm, warm personality and sense of humour and as a respected and much loved member of our Sight Support family, his unexpected passing is deeply felt by staff, volunteers and service users alike.

All funds raised will be put towards the continuation of the SocialEYES programme

This run will be a real test for me although I’ve always been into fitness and exercise since my teens my main focus has always been the sport I play which is rugby league therefore my training has always been short and sharp. I’m not the lightest guy in the world and wouldn’t say I’m built for distance running and I remember hating every second of cross country at school so it’s sure to test me but I will get through it with the thought of Andy’s determination to succeed and kelvins desire and fight to recover from

His transplant in my head from start to finish.

Please if you can sponsor me in memory of these two amazing men and towards these two fantastic charities I would be grateful.

I will post the link to a just giving page or I will take sponsorships in person.

Thanks in advance for anyone’s support.

See you at the finish line.
