A plea for help from my lovely friends and family....

During my midwifery career, I have been involved in providing care to women who have experienced being a victim to domestic abuse. This included physical, emotional, financial, controlling and sexual abuse.

No matter what type of abuse women suffer, no woman, no matter what, deserves to be mistreated.

I have witnessed countless times that West Mercia Women’s Refuge have supported these women and their children with providing them a safe place to live, ensuring they have the mental support required to help them heal. The team are always finding ways of making the time these women spend at the refuge as pleasant and homely as possible!

I sometimes find myself thinking of the families I have been involved with and how they have had to flee their homes, leaving their belongings, friends and any finances just to keep themselves and their children safe.... I suppose this time of year I think of them a little more than usual....

1:4 women experience some form of domestic abuse during their lives.... and there will be women and children in the Women’s Refuge this Christmas with little or no family and gifts...

This is where I need your help!!! I have been assured by the Women’s Refuge that the children there will have Christmas gifts but unfortunately the mum’s of the children will have nothing on Christmas Day....

Therefore I am asking for any donations for these vulnerable women who have been through such tough times in life to ensure they have a little surprise on Christmas Day!!
