As some of you may already know, I made a documentary about dogs for mental health as part of my undergrad dissertation last year (you can watch it here: http://bit.ly/2L1kIQS ). After hearing the heartbreaking stories of people who wouldn’t have got by without their dogs, I learned so so much about the importance of accepting mental health assistance dogs & the damage that ignorance can do. A year later, I now volunteer for the small charity ‘Capable Creatures’! 🐶

Run by the inspirational Lise Marron, Capable Creatures focuses on training people’s own dogs to be their mental health assistance dogs as well as helping people who depend on their dogs for support. 🐶 Anyone who has a dog will know the extraordinary benefits of merely having one in their life & how much happier they can make us!

1 in 4 people will have a mental health condition in their lifetime. For some, recovery can take years and training an assistance dog to carry out tasks to help manage the illness could be life changing.

There are currently only one or two active charities like this in the UK and their work is so important.

So, for my birthday this year I am asking for a kind donation (of any amount, big or small) to Capable Creatures & every penny helps! Your donation will contribute toward the training of a Guides for the Mind assistance dog & will help to improve the quality of life for someone with a disabling mental health condition. We hope that with time and funding, the charity will get more exposure & be able to expand to further areas of the UK to help even more people.

As Capable Creatures is currently so small and only based in the Southampton area (for now!!) they don’t have many donation options available - you can see more info about donating on their website. The money raised here will go directly to me, but I 100% promise that every penny raised here will be passed on to the charity & contribute to the cause!
