    Story

Cardiff Skate School is a not for profit dedicated roller sports club who are committed to raising the participation and standards of roller sports. Run by a single mum of 3 who is passionate about the benefits of roller skating on social, mental and physical benefits that she runs this voluntarily around work and family commitments.

Roller skating levels the field when it come to inclusivity it reaches participants that no other sport is able to do. It reaches those people that don‘t enjoy conventional sports and accomadates a wide range of people aged from 2-102 !!

CSS reach those that would normally never participate in a physical activity Meaning healthier happier adults and children AND also exceeds targets on getting women and children active .

Roller skating also is beneficial in maintaining good mental health and overall general fitness and this is what CSS aim to do if a roller sport is not something you want to participate in. its also a great recreational activity that maintains good health and activity levels.

CSS also have sessions for disabled skaters and autistic skaters and anyone else that thinks that skating is out of their reach thanks to equipment provided by the Adam Cullen Skating Project which CSS would like to expand.

To continue providing these opportunities Cardiff Skate School need to aquire their own premises.

Local lesiure centres will not let them use the facilities. Local community centres will not let them use the facilities and those that want to assist, dont have the space required.

The venues that CSS do use are restricted on when and how often they use them meaning that they cant facilitate as many people as they would like and they are also losing popular venues due to their own needs or the facility is too expensive to maintain regular or consistent sessions at an affordable cost to participants

Having our own facility would enable us to expand Cardiff Skate School to provide more opportunities for both existing and new skaters. To continue to provide an alternative physical activity to those that don‘t enjoy conventional sports or exercise activities. It will also enable us to develop roller sports teams to provide more opportunities to those that want to persue an avenue in roller derby, artistic roller skating and the deveioment of Wales first roller hockey teams in over 20 years.

Roller sports aren‘t very well acknowledged or respected in sporting circles which makes it difficult to get taken seriously but as a GP recently quoted

”I wish I could prescribe roller skating to my patients“

For the benefits on both physical and mental health!!
