    Story

    The Musical Inception:

My love and enthusiasm of Music I owe to two sets of people. My Parents and a bunch of lovely Mercy Nuns in the Convent were I literally spent most of my Childhood! As most of my Irish FB friends will testify my Dad was a pretty well acclaimed Saxophonist entertaining people with his 'Showband' for decades both Nationally and Worldwide. My Second Musical influence were the wonderful Mercy Nuns in my little town Buttervent Co, Cork. Ireland. A beautiful Nun called 'Sr Frances Therese' became a special friend to me giving me free piano lessons and my payback to her was she had to constantly chase me off the tennis/volley ball courts to get me to practise the Piano!...Despite coming from a very musical family we did not even possess a piano so I spent most of my childhood in my second home ..'The Convent'...amazing really that I did not join the order!! This wonderful Lady also gave me a job at the age of 16 after doing my Grade 8 Piano, teaching the 'little children' on a Saturday morning. I even won the privilege of occupying the one and only staff room where I was adorned with amazing homemade apple tart with lashings of cream (flip I'm on a detox!!!) served on their best china!! I truly have very fond memories of the Mercy Nuns and all their selfless act's who showed me and other Children a lot of love especially after my Mum had died...I often reflect on how I truly owe them for the 'Gift of Music'.

I have had several jobs in the Financial Sector all of which were non 'soul fulfilling'!! Fed up of losing my job due to mergers, take overs and recession I finally got back to my first love...Teaching...also after doing a Psychotherapy Degree I missed my Music so here I am in a privileged position of teaching some wonderful and talented young people the Piano. musicalinstinctatplay I spend as much time possible now immersing myself in my own musical endeavours with my own professional development having piano, singing and clarinet lessons as if I am not busy enough...

    Why Detox:

My enthusiastic personality ripples over to my eating and drinking habits and sadly after years of over indulging in chocolate, sweets, red wine and prosecco...the waist line is not as trim as it once was! so my challenge is trying to loose some weight in a month...probablly a big ask but I though it would be a very sensible thing to guarantee my sustained motivation to abstain from my favourite foodstuffs was to find a worthwhile Charity to affiliate my Detox to. so I went in pursuit of a children's charity that were somehow linked to Music...Thank you to the lovely lady on Fleet Parents who put me in touch with 'Starburst Theatre' in Farnborough...Starburst Foundation Musical Theatre

I have always admired those who were able to give up drinking alcohol for a month..so I choose January for its 31DAYS....but I am going a few steps further with chocolates, sweets biscuits and cakes . (BUT NOT CRISPS!!) I provide sweets daily for my pupils (why do you think they love me)...my hand is in the sweetie jar more than there's so this will be my biggest challenge.

    My Nemesis

Crisps are too but I think that would be a step too far!

    Why Starburst Foundation?

I wanted to find a Charity that helped Children and that somehow engaged in Musical Endeavours and who better that this wonderful local Charity. Starburst foundation who share my desire to help Children!

Starburst is a registered children's charity aiming to support children with special needs in the Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire borders. How it all began Starburst Theatre Company was formed in 1991 as a result of successful theatre productions which raised money for local children's charities. Over the years, the Theatre Company donate directly to local children who need specialised equipment in order to assist with their daily lives, resulting in building self-esteem, improving confidence and providing independence. Their funds help towards funding specialist and bespoke equipment for Children who need adapted buggies and tricycles s to assist their daily lives. The Starburst Theatre foundation hold various Musical productions annually such as Pantomimes held in local theatres.

Its members consist of non-paid volunteers from the local community.

I personally could not think of a more fulfilling way in which to raise money for such a worthy cause...let's face it our Children are tomorrow's future and how they conduct their lives will be influenced by the people that have met along their journey....just like those wonderful Teacher's I was so privileged to have met!

    Kindly Donate:

So please please help to make me that slimmer person I once was (lol) and more importantly help me raise some money for a real worthy cause...please stop by and look at their website.....

Thank you all so very much! Carol

Well done raising money for this worthy cause. I’m trying to cut out sweet treats and alcohol too after falling out with my bathroom scales at the new year.
