Dwi ar fwrdd yr elusen newid hinsawdd flaenllaw, Maint Cymru. Ddiwedd mis Ionawr, gofynnodd y Cyfarwyddwr os lice unrhyw ymddiriedolwyr godi arian i'r elusen drwy seiclo i Ddinbych-y-pysgod. Gan fy mod i'n caru seiclo bob dydd, feddylais fod hyn yn syniad ardderchog.

Dwi 'di bod ar un neu ddau o wyliau seiclo. Dwi'n seiclo o amgylch Caerdydd. Ac un o'r bobl 'ny sy'n llusgo beic ar drên, a hala bobl yn benwan yn y broses. Ac ar ôl i mi ddarllen y strapline fod y Carten yn 'daith nid ras', wnes i gytuno yn y man a'r lle.

Yn anffodus, dwi 'di dysgu'n gyflym iawn mae'r seiclo dwi'n hoffi yn hollol wahanol i'r seiclo sydd angen ar gyfer y Carten (sef 107 o filltiroedd i gyd). Ma' gofyn am lycra, nid sgertiau na basgedi. Mae esgidiau seiclo 'cysylltu' yn beryg bywyd. Yn yr wythnos ddiwethaf, oherwydd y 'sgidiau hurt 'ma, dwi 'di cwmpo fel Delboy mwy nag unwaith oddi ar fy meic, gan gynnwys siwrne tu fas Spar Llandaf. Rhaid cyfadde hefyd mod i nawr yn or-dderbyniol ar hufen Chamois ac yn hollol grediniol mai gwaith y diafol yw sedd racer.

I drio ddod yn barod ar gyfer yr hunllef yma, dwi 'di llwyddo recriwtio pedwar o ddynion sy'n licio'r math yma o seiclo. Sy'n gret. Ond sialens ychwanegol Eurig (fy mrawd), Lawrence, Kev ac Owain yw aros yn stond ar y tyle, tra dwi'n trio dal lan â nhw. Dwi'n araf iawn. Bydd gofyn iddynt hefyd fod yn amyneddgar am 10 awr a mwy, wrth wrando arna i yn rhegi fel morwr a mynnu pryd bob 40 munud. Bydd yr holl brofiad yn bleser llwyr iddynt.

Er gwaetha hyn oll, mae Maint Cymru, digwydd bod, yn elusen wych. Yn unigryw i Gymru, ei chenhadaeth yw i gynnal ardal o goedwig drofannol ddwywaith maint Cymru fel rhan o ymateb cenedlaethol i newid hinsawdd.

Mae'n anodd ymgyffred bod cloddio'r gorffennol - hynny yw ein hallyriadau etifeddol - yn dal i gynhesu'r blaned cyn gymaint â'n hallyriadau presennol, os nad mwy. Yn amlwg, does dim modd i ni newid hanes. Ond mae'n bosib iawn amsugno mwy o'n carbon etifeddol wrth blannu neu warchod mwy o goed yn y trofannau.

Yn hynny o beth, mae'r elusen yn mynd i'r afael â newid hinsawdd mewn dwy ffordd wirioneddol bwysig. Yn gyntaf, mae Maint Cymru yn cefnogi prosiectau sy'n diogelu a / neu'n adfer coedwigoedd trofannol yn Affrica, De America a De Ddwyrain Asia. Mae pob un o'r prosiectau yn gweithio i rymuso cymunedau lleol i gymryd camau cadarnhaol i amddiffyn coedwigoedd yn eu milltir sgwar. Yn ail, drwy godi ymwybyddiaeth fan hyn yng Nghymru am sgil effeithiau newid hinsawdd a phwysigrwydd coedwigoedd trofannol wrth i ni gynllunio ymateb â strategaeth synhwyrol.

Mae 'na llai na' 12 mlynedd ar ôl i atal newid hinsawdd trychinebus rhag effeithio'n ddirfawr ar genedlaethau'r dyfodol, felly mae'n waith hanfodol.

I'm a trustee of the leading climate change charity, Size of Wales. Late January, the Director asked if any trustees would like to raise money for the charity by cycling to Tenby. I responded enthusiastically.

I've been on a cycling holiday or two. I cycle around town. I'm one of those people who drags her bike on a train, annoying several people in the process. So I said yes. After all, it's advertised as 'a ride not a race'.

I've quickly learnt that the Carten is nothing like the cycling I've done before. It involves lycra, not skirts or baskets. Connector cycling shoes have me doing Delboy comedy falls outside the Spar in Llandaf (four falls and counting). Chamois cream has become a necessity: a racer seat is, without doubt, the work of the devil.

In a bid to get myself match fit, I've recruited four people who are far better cyclists than I am. The additional challenge facing Eurig (my brother), Lawrence, Kev and Owain is to pretty much backpeddle up hills so they don't overtake me. It's also to remain patient and in good humour, while listening to me swear like a sailor and snack every 40 mins. It's going to be an absolute pleasure for them.

Size of Wales just so happens to be a fantastic charity. It's unique to Wales, with a mission to sustain an area of tropical forest twice the size of Wales as part of a national response to climate change.

It blows my mind that our coal mining past - our legacy emissions - is still warming the planet as much as our current emissions, if not more. Obviously, what's done is done. We can't turn back the clock. But there is a solution. One absolutely proven way to deal with legacy carbon is to absorb it by planting or protecting more trees in the tropics.

The charity tackles climate change in two really important ways. First, it supports projects that protect and/or restore tropical forests in Africa, South America and South East Asia. Each project works to empower local communities to take positive steps to protect the forests in their patch. Second, by raising awareness in Wales of climate change and the importance of tropical forests as part of a sensible strategic solution.

Together, we've just under 12 years to stop catastrophic climate change from becoming a disaster for future generations, so Size of Wales is doing vital work.
