Mental health issues effect 1 in 3 people, access to support within our statutory services is limited and under resourced with waiting lists often exceeding 6-12 months and support capped to 3-12 weeks. Private support is financially out of reach for many. Cedar Counselling is a counselling and mental health charity based in Birmingham, established since 2011 offering talking therapies and psycho-educative groups to individual adults, couples, families and young people. Clients can access our service from donating as little as £10-15 per session (as we are not in receipt of any government funding) and are entitled to ongoing support; 90% of clients are being supported within 2 weeks of contact with our service. This makes our service unique and we would like to expand our service to reach more people by setting up a second site in South Leamington Spa. £20,000 would enable us to rent a venue, cover some of our running costs for 12 months as well as purchasing some office essentials such as furniture and a PC. The first 12 months is a crucial time and having financial relief from some of our running costs would mean that we could focus our energy on setting up this much needed services and promote it within the community.
