    Story

This is Thalita de Menezes Silva, born 01/09/2002. Thalita is a child born with a syndrome called "Wolf" (Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS), also known as "chromosome deletion Dillan 4p syndrome, Pitt-Rogers-Danks syndrome (PRDS) or Pitt syndrome" (is a chromosomal deletion syndrome resulting from a partial deletion from the short arm of chromosome 4. Features include a distinct craniofacial phenotype and intellectual disability.) Thalita was diagnosed at birth, and her doctor gave her only 2 years of life. Today, contrary to all expectations, she is 18 years old. During this time, she has undergone two major surgeries (the first in her head when she was only 1 year old, and the other was a major spine surgery when she was 13). This syndrome makes it impossible for her to walk, speak and even to pick up things, thus being dependent on her mother's help constantantly. Currently, Thalita attends a special School for children with physical and mental disabilities. The school is called "Essential Center for Special Education", located at Rua Mármore, 92 - Santa Tereza, Belo Horizonte - MG, 31010-220, Brazil (Tel .: 0055 31 3461-3077). Unfortunately, Thalita's mother cannot have any kind of permanent job, which will give her the necessary income to support her daughter’s care needs. Thalita needs extreme vigilance all the time. Her mother takes her to school and collects her from the school by car, which is a lifesaver for her mother as Thalita is big and heavy to carry. During the school’s holidays Thalita stays at home and her mother cares for her 24/7, which makes it impossible for her mother to find a job. The government of Minas Gerais helps Thalita’s mother by paying a percentage of the School fees, which is private, however, the expenses are huge and sadly her father does not help with anything at all. To make things worse, we do not even know where he is right now. The payment of the remaining money to fund the school is always delayed because Thalita's mother depends on donations from family and friends to pay the school and since they are all on a very low income, the school payments become an excessive burden on the family. In addition to the money needed to pay the school, the other big expense is on diapers. The amount spent on diapers monthly is R$ 191.00 which is equivalent to 70 diapers a month. This family desperately needs your solidarity and your support. Please, I beg you today to help in any way and form possible if you can by contributing with whatever amount you can. The money will be converted solely and exclusively to care for Thalita. The only thing that gives this young woman more quality of live is her school, where she receives all the treatments that she needs such as; physiotherapy, care, inclusion and all the attention that she needs for her limited development. We count on your help, support and solidarity.
