Story
Chris Durrance is a family man with two young daughters, Scarlett (5) and Sidney (1) who has always worked and provided for his family. Unfortunately, in July 2018, Chris was diagnosed with colon cancer which had spread to other parts of his body including his lymphatic system. Chris was immediately sent for an emergency operation to remove 6 tumours on his bowell which covered 70% of his colon. Surgeons could only give him a 1 in 20 chance of survival. Chris has been through months of specialist treatment, including debilitating chemotherapy and he is still waiting to hear that the cancer is no longer present. Unfortunately, Chris is to endure at least two further bouts of surgery before he can begin to lead a normal life. Unfortunately, during this time, Chris's financial situation has become difficult as he is now only on half pay from his employment at Royal Mail, which in July will diminish altogether. Chris has also lost his managerial bonuses and allowances. Furthermore, to relieve financial distress, the family have had to move out of their house. Any funds raised will go directly to Chris, his partner Joanne and their daughters, in order to alleviate the obvious financial problems that will hit any family when a large proportion of an income is lost. The goal here is for finances to be less of a burden so the family can concentrate on getting through this terrible adversity and the continued difficult months ahead.
In order to raise some funds for Chris, I have decided to ride the incredibly tough cycling sportive "The Fred Whitton Challenge". The Fred whitton challenge takes place in the Lake District and is a 115 mile course taking in some of the most difficult road climbs in the UK. Mat Wilson (Gym manager) will be accompanying me on the ride. Please visit
https://www.fredwhittonchallenge.co.uk for more details. Please donate and share so we can raise as much money for this very worthwhile cause. Many thanks, Chris Reeder (South Division)

5 years agoHi, I have changed the target to £2500 as we smashed the £1000 target in a little over a week and I still have a lot of people to harass. Received further cash donations, £20 from each of Simon Allmen and Kev Pratt. Cash total is £145. Chris Durrance is in good spirits and staying positive. He's hoping to get back to work before the summer depending on how 2 lots of surgery goes. He's so grateful to everyone. Thanks Chris Reeder

5 years agoReceived plenty of cash donations this week. £20 from Nikki porter and Chris Armenia. £15 from Dave Paget and £10 from Damo and the legend, John Noble. I'll hopefully be passing these to Chris on Thursday evening. Thanks so much to everyone, hoping there is a lot more to come from the MPU as soon as I can get round all the divisions. Cheers
