    Story

I recently married an amazing woman called Christine who not only runs the local community centre but also while doing that struggles with her health as she has rheumatoid arthritis as well as a couple of other life changing conditions (raynaud's disease and fibromyalgia). I have personally seen her in so much pain that she can't get out of bed or even comb her hair. No person of her age should have to deal with so much but she does and she deals with it so much better than I could. She truly is an inspirational women (hence why I married her). On top of dealing with more medical conditions than anyone should have to deal with, she started a job running Cottingley Community Centre after being unemployed for 10 years and during the time she has run the centre she has started to bring the community together. For example the elderly now have an lunchtime meal group. The youth have a youth club, there are also social clubs like bingo that truly bring back the old school community spirit to the area. We also learnt our first wedding dance with one of the great dance instructors who work out of the centre. If all of this wasn't enough Christine is also a staunch supporter of the inclusion of children with additional needs, as Christine has a daughter with autism. Many people I know would have crumbled under this but not Christine, she has already taken it upon herself to create a sensory room in the centre that caters for disabled children of all ages and all abilities and continues to create an "all for one" mentality in the centre. There is also a weekly children's group aimed at children with additional needs and their siblings. Christine is the only full time paid member of staff at the centre but she is helped by some truly remarkable and wonderful women (and Gary) who volunteer. When I met the women I was surprised to find out that before they started volunteering they actually didn't know each other even though they had been living on the same estate for years. Now I know that Christine would never say this about herself but she has created a family based at this centre where anyone would do anything for you now matter how big or small and if it wasn't for her these amazing women would have never met or helped to create this truly wonderful place. Christine will be taking part in Tough Mudder Yorkshire with myself and some other friends and family. To most "normal" people Tough Mudder would be a challenge but to Christine this is the equivalent of me or you climbing Mount Everest, Christine will be pushing her body to the limit to try and raise money for her beloved centre. Please donate as much as you can to help Christine create the perfect community centre and help the local people have somewhere to go swap stories, socialise or even just sit in silence with a nice cup of tea
