    Story

My name is Kimm Cheatham and I’m fifty three years old from the USA. After living in Florida for ten years and going through a divorce I moved to New Mexico to see my daughter and grandchildren. Shortly after I found out I had stage 3 breast cancer. Two years have passed since then and I had to have a mastectomy followed by six months of chemotherapy then reconstructive breast surgery. Way before that I had a motorcycle accident and a deep sea fishing accident which caused a crushed ankle on my left side and metal plates and screws on my right side and I eventually had to have a total hip replacement. Over time this has caused me pain which I have to deal with everyday with the help of medication.

Obviously this has affected my quality of life, not just physically but mentally. For the past twenty five years I have been treated for depression, PTSD, bi-polar, acute pain and anxiety issues which is ongoing to this day.

After receiving all the treatment for cancer (I still take Tamoxifen on a daily basis) I am hopeful to keep the cancer from coming back. This also causes known problems with menopause issues and bone pain. I’ve been living my life since then on a day to day basis.

Seven years ago I met an English guy online called Christopher and we have been contacting each other nearly every day since first meeting virtually. He has known my struggles in life since the beginning as I have known his. We have always been honest and truthful with each other and that remains to this day, we understand each other so well..

So after seven years of knowing each other online, Christopher finally decided he wanted to meet me in person. He got a flight to New Mexico during the Summer of 2017 for two weeks. It felt like we had known each other for a lifetime. When he had to go back to England I was devastated but it made me realise he was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I managed to get some funds to pay for a one way flight to the UK for up to six months with a travel visa as I was struggling to be without him in person.

I was in the UK from beginning of October 2017 until the end of March 2018 with Christopher supporting me and the plan has always been for me to stay in the UK longer than that. The only option we could find was for me to get a work visa to enable me to stay but this has proved really difficult to obtain being a USA citizen. I’m not sure how Prince Harry and his American partner Meghan Markle can get married and expect to live together in the UK as they've not lived together for two years which is one of the settlement requirements, getting married doesn't change this.

Anyway, everything got too much for me to handle five days before Christmas and I tried to take an overdose. Thankfully Christopher found me in time and called an Ambulance and I was admitted to Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. I was in a coma for four days in ICU and on a ward for one. Christopher came to see me in hospital during that time usually for about 8 hours when I was there and I was eventually discharged on Christmas Eve 2017.

Unfortunately when I decided to come to the UK I didn’t get any travel / health insurance so am now faced with a hospital bill of nearly £9,000. We took out a payment plan with Addenbrookes for the initial amount of £2,665. The second bill didn't arrive until about 4 months later which was quite a shock! I must say the NHS staff at Addenbrookes have been fantastic throughout even with the payment scheme we currently have which is £222 a month (without interest) but now the final bill has come in they would like us to pay more a month.

Christopher has been really supportive throughout and continues to do so but doesn’t have that kind of money to pay for the increased monthly hospital bill so I’m asking anyone out there if they could help us with any amount of money, large or small. Many thanks for any help, you really don’t know how much of a burden this will alleviate to make it easier to deal with my ongoing health problems along with the stress of unpaid hospital charges in the UK.

I was not able to get a work visa so I flew back to the USA at the end of March 2018 (I didn't have a flight booked and didn't want to face deportation so Christopher paid for a return flight). I'm now living with my daughter in Colorado until I return to the UK at the end of September 2018. I gave up everything I had in the USA to be able to be with Christopher. I just want to be with the one that I love and know this is the true love of my life.
