BASINGSTOKE swimmer Ciarán Kelly has been selected to represent GB at next years Special Olympics World Games being held in Abu Dhabi.

Ciarán attended Dove House Academy and is a member of Basingstoke Bluefins and Reading Cygnets. He is one of seven swimmers selected to represent GB, where he will be swimming 1500m, 800m and 400m freestyle.

Ciarán was a member of the Southern Region team who attended the 2017 Special Olympic Summer Games in Sheffield. There he won gold in the 1500m freestyle, silver in the 200m freestyle, bonze in the 400m freestyle and 100m fly gaining PBs in all his races! In addition Ciarán is a past winner of the Junior Disabled Sportsperson Award at the Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards.

To be able to take up his place at the Special Olympics World Games Ciarán is looking for sponsorship to help fund the costs £2,500, which includes kits, support and coaching staff, accommodation, race fees, food and travel to and from Abu Dhabi.

To help start him off Ciarán is taking part in the Basingstoke Lions Swimathon on 3rd March at the town centre pool, Basingstoke starting at 17:30.
