    Story

Milland’s Telephone Box and Defibrillator by Claire Collins. Our village defibrillator was installed in the telephone box in 2012 and on several occasions it has been put to good use. Unfortunately the ambulance service is no longer able to supply us with the equipment, which now needs updating to the latest model. For now, batteries and gel pads are still available to purchase for the existing defib. The pads currently need changing; also one of the glass panels needs replacing as a car door has smashed it, presumably? Other costs incurred have been replacing some of the glass panels with mesh, providing ventilation during the summer months. The box has also been treated for rust and been given a new coat of paint. The best quote for an iPad SP1 that is recommended at the moment is £912 if ordered through a Responder Group, £1300-£1500 if not. Haslemere responder group have offered to order this for us. Batteries are claimed to last 4-5 years and are not as expensive as our current defibs. The gel pads are also less expensive and work on adults and children. The SP1 has a switch to go between adults and children. I still have some funds remaining from previous fundraising and donations, however this is reserved for the upkeep of the box and replacements batteries, which cost about £400. I have approached some of the village groups with regards to funding but would really welcome your comments and input on funding and the way forward. I hope we all agree that a fully functioning defibrillator will benefit the village for years to come. All donations are gratefully received.
