My son, Lewis, was diagnosed in August 2015 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia for the second time in his life. He had to undergo two and a half years of treatment and most of this involved very lengthy hospital stays and frequent visits. During this time we were introduced to John O’Byrne, who was a volunteer within the hospital and off his own back set up a charity to help children who had to endure hospital stays for whatever reason, to make their stay that bit more bearable and put a smile upon their face.

Lewis hit it off with John immediately (not always easy with Lewis due to his Downs Syndrome) and enjoyed his visits when he was in the ward. He recieved many generous gifts from John (his favourite being his PS4). This undoubtably made Lewis’s hospital stays and visits a lot happier and in turn gave us, as a family, great delight in seeing our wee boy so happy when going through the worst possible time ever!

I have had a love of boxing since a young age and during Lewis’s treatment I fell into boxing training in order to let off steam to cope with the situation we were in. So now that Lewis’s treatment has successfully finished it’s time to give something back! I have bravely/stupidly signed myself up for a boxing fight on Saturday 29th September in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza where I will hopefully make it through 3 x 2 minute rounds in order to raise money for the John O’Byrne Foundation. So this is where I need you guys to help raise as much as possible to keep putting those smiles back on those childrens faces!
