Weʼve raised £705 to donate to the Intensive Therapy Unit at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in memory of James Smith

Funded on Sunday, 8th September 2019

    Story

My husband James was admitted to hospital on 3rd April 2019. He had experienced a seizure at home so I called an ambulance. He initially went to Princess Royal in Telford but was transferred to Royal Shrewsbury Intensive Therapy Unit due to bed availability and that is where he spent his final 10 days.

Although James’s condition deteriorated daily and his organs one by one began to fail or shut down, the staff on the ITU never gave up hope and tried absolutely everything they could to save him. He received round the clock care, and all the staff did their very best to make myself and the rest of James’s family aware of what was happening each time we asked.

On 13th April, James lost his fight and it was time for him to go. The nurses allowed me to spend a very special last hour or so with James, before preparing both him and us for what can only be described as the most dignified passing anyone could wish for.

I am totally heartbroken by the loss of my wonderful husband, but I am determined that something positive will come from his death - please donate as little or as much as you wish and all funds raised will be passed on to the Intensive Therapy Unit at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, so they can continue to help people in as much need as James was.

I appreciate a lot of you have already donated, but there are lots of people who couldn’t make it to the funeral so I am trying to include all who wish to contribute.

I will be passing the funds on to John Williams Funeral Service in Shifnal who are going to make the donation on my behalf, on or around 24th May, so if you want like to donate please do so before this date.
