Story
The "Clean Water Initiative" is a social entrepreneurship project supported by the VUB Social Entrepreneurship Platform in Belgium, that aims to tackle the issue of access to a secure water supply in remote rural areas of Colombia.
The supply of treated water into rural areas divided into small “veredas” with a low density of population, results in extremely high cost per family. The regional governments being only able to place water treatment plants in denser cities, obliges farmers and their families to cover big distances to get safe tap water. Even public institutions such as schools where children spend most of their time, have difficulties in providing safe water. This untreated water jeopardises people’s health.
In order to create permanent better-living conditions for Colombian farmers we will base on a transfer of a new technology we have come out with: providing them with a cheap, effective and self-made water filter. We will not only give them the filter but also, teach them how to build it and install it. This way they will become autonomous and able to solve their own problems.
