The Event

The Elephant Charge is an annual event which challenges teams of cars and motorbikes to complete a grueling course through the Zambian bush. The Charge is held to raise money for conservation in Zambia, focused on conservation through education, and in the eleven years since it began, the event has raised over $740,000.

The Vehicle and Team

A 1981 Nissan Patrol Y60 called ‘The Animal’, will now be taking on its tenth charge with a team of six very dedicated people. The ‘Hogs’ have won three times and often place in the top three at the charge, this year we want to keep the trophy in its rightful home!

Why do we do it?

In the last year, we have seen unprecedented amounts of wildlife crime across the continent, including the illegal killing of elephants for their ivory. In order to protect the wildlife and natural resources of Zambia, it is essential to engage local communities on topics such as wildlife protection, sustainable natural resource practices and land management. Local communities need to have a sense of ownership of the natural resources. Education in the long term will create a generation of conservationists. The Elephant Charge, its participants, the beneficiaries and organisers are all part of the fight against the threat, now you can be part of it too!
