    Story

October 2019 will see Craig Jones and Shaun Layland from CMJ Motor Sport tackle one of Great Britain’s most prestigious stage rallies - the World Rally Championship 'Rally GB'.

Rally GB based in Wales, is set within some of the best forests and woods that the area has to offer and for this event, Craig and Shaun will enter under the National category.

The new pairing of Craig and Shaun got off to a flying start together on the Tour of Epynt 2019, and at points, it seemed like they were flying, literally!

At the Tour of Epynt the pair managed to produce an outstanding giant-killing performance and secure 6th overall and 1st in class. This fantastic start is only the beginning for them, as they aim to secure podium finishes and contest for overall wins on more tarmac events leading up to Rally GB.

Craig has competed on Rally GB before with a basic specification Mitsubishi Evo 4 and managed to secure 11th overall. This time with a newer and greater specification hired Mitsubishi Evo 9 he is aiming high and will be pushing for that top spot. Along with this Craig has done a range of events in a range of cars and on each one he has always been on the limit from the word go and producing even more giant-killing performances.

Shaun, on the other hand, has never done the event but has a considerable wealth of experience on other events across both gravel and tarmac in a vast range of cars where he has also managed to secure some highly notable results.

Alongside this Shaun is also part of the Motorsport UK academy programme for co-drivers in which only 7 people across the UK are a part of for 2019. By being in the academy, Shaun has shown the potential to excel within the role of a co-driver but also demonstrated the potential to reach professional co-driving standards so with this in mind Craig, and Shaun as a team have the makings of an extremely competitive pairing as proven by their debut on the Tour of Epynt.

This event saw them take 3rd place honours in their main championship for the year which is the King of Epynt Challenge. This result places them 3rd in the overall championship standings along with taking 1st place position in the JD Tyres Welsh Championship giving them a good advantage over the rest in both championships heading into the next rounds. This crew isn’t one to back down from a challenge, and they will continue to push hard and secure the best possible results that they can throughout the year.

After the Tour of Epynt the crew quickly decided to round the year off together with Rally GB. This event will be costly, but at the same time it will be a fantastic experience for the pair in a hired Mitsubishi Evo 9, and they will aim to secure a top 10 result in the Nationals!

The pair has decided to hire a car for the event instead of using their current tarmac car, because it will cost too much to convert it into a gravel car. Also the car that will be hired is of a higher specification meaning a greater push on the stages for that top spot!

The estimated budget for this event will be £9,150.00.

    A rough breakdown of this budget is;

    - Entry fee £1000

    - Car hire + Insurance £4000

    - Fuel £1000

    - Tyres £1000

    - Service van + crew £1000

    - Accommodation for the event for the team £500

    - Food and drink for the whole team £500

    - Pace notes £100

    - Rally car on event insurance £50

The CMJ Motorsport team are seeking additional fundraising support of £6,000 to help with the costs of getting them to Rally GB. With huge financial commitments from inhouse already committed, they are looking for support from motorsport fans and sponsors. No matter how big or small your donation will play a vital role in getting the boys off to a flying chance of chasing the title. This team is a super slick and well oiled machine and run professionally by members of CMJ Motors, Brecon. Please help Craig and Shaun achieve their goal of Rally GB success in 2019?

Any donations given are greatly appreciated and will be used wisely.

Your donation will give you access to a regular news update and insights from the team as they chase the goal. Be part of something special – press the link to make a donation!
