Story
I’m running the Baxters 10k to help raise funds towards much needed specialised playground equipment for Drummond School.
As you may know, my son Kian has a rare genetic condition called Sotos Syndrome. He also has Autism and a rare form of Epilepsy. Kian attends the local special needs school. The facilities at Drummond School and the support Kian receives on a daily basis is truly outstanding. Kian has many anxieties and struggles with the outside world, but with the dedicated support provided by the staff, Kian loves attending the school and feels at ease.
For the past 18 months the school have been fundraising to build a new playground with specialised equipment which comes with a very large price tag! Phase 1 of the project was installed during the summer holidays.
They are now fundraising towards Phase 2 of the project which will include a much needed wheelchair accessible swing, wheelchair accessible roundabout and trim trial.
I am not a runner or sporty person in any way, so this will be a huge challenge for me! But it’s nothing compared to the many challenges my son faces every day. I will do it for my boy and for all the other amazing pupils who attend Drummond School.
Every child should be able to experience the fun of the playground and it would be fantastic to have a playground that meets the needs of all the children.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story x

6 years agoToday I wanted to raise awareness of my sons condition, Sotos Syndrome and to raise funds for specialised playground equipment for Drummond School. I did it 🙌. My aim was to run the whole way for my boy and all the other kiddies out there who have never experienced the joy of running, and I did it 🏃♀️. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and I’m pretty chuffed with my time - 1hr 12min!! Thank you so so much to everyone who has supported me, every penny will make such a difference to the children who attend the school ❤️xxx
