We are a family who has been torn apart due to a rogue plumber who has been on watchdog...We advertised on Facebook looking for a registered plumber and we got a message from a Rick Goldthorpe who said he could install a second hand boiler. The plumber assured us that he was Gas Safe Registered and that he could install the boiler for £900. Whilst installing the boiler which is located in the loft, the plumber then came through the ceiling leaving a large hole which is now another job which needs repairing. Mr Goldthorpe then told us that he couldnt fit the boiler as there were parts missing but he could get us an almost new boiler with fitting for a further £800 plus flue being extra. He also charged £100 for fuel for each visit, which did seem a lot but we were desperate to get the boiler working..Mr Goldthorpe then fit us the boiler he had brought which gave us heating but still no hot water. He told us he needed a part {at an extra cost plus travel expenses} to get the water working and would be back in a few days to fit it but that the boiler was safe to use for heating. After using the boiler for a few days it became apparent something something was wrong. Our family started to have headaches and a chest infection which ended up turning into a broken rib due to coughing. My partners daughter is heavily pregnant and has had to rent her own house due to the family home being so cold and not fit for a new born baby, A gas inspector came to look at the boiler and told us to turn it off immediately and turned off the gas supply to the boiler as it was leaking into the house. He advised us to report Mr Goldthorpe to Gas Safe and Trading Standards which we did and this is now ongoing. Gas Safe informed us that Mr Goldthorpe is not Gas Safe Registered and we have since found out that he has a prohibition order to prevent him carry out any gas work. We are still without heating and hot water as we are waiting for Gas Safe to investigate. We cannot do any repairs until their investigation is complete, and until we can afford to get it rectified.
