    Story

    National Park sells iconic woodland

In 1984, Craggy Wood was sold to the Lake District National Park (LDNPA) and it was thought to be safe in public hands for the future. Now the LDNPA need cash and are selling off their assets.

    Community Interest

The local community had Craggy Wood accepted as an Asset of Community Value and so were given first option to buy it when it came on the market. The price is £120,000 and we have until the end of September 2018 to raise this amount. £75000 has already been raised or pledged.

Leo Houlding - professional mountaineer and climber lives in the village and is supporting our fundraising campaign. He says: "Over the years we have enjoyed walking in Craggy Wood. Now we have two young children the delights of this ancient woodland and its rocky outcrops provide an ideal place to explore. Maintaining access and the freedom to play in Craggy Wood, as well as protecting the native wildlife is why I whole heartedly support this bid to secure the woods on behalf of the cola commutiy".

Cumbria Wildlife Trust a local Charity will actually buy and manage the woodlands for the community, but we need to raise the money for them to make the purchase.

Please help us keep our lovely woodland in public hands.
