Story
Ever heard of #MeToo?
On Sunday 21st October 2018 I'm running the Amsterdam Marathon to support my amazing friend, Gina, deliver workshops in schools exploring gender equality through discussion, debate and drama.
In 2017 Gina was one of the women at the forefront of the #MeToo movement when she spoke out against a prominent theatre figure for inappropriate sexual comments he made to her in the workplace.
Gina was enormously brave to stand up and speak out. And to help others do the same, Gina has set up Spark , a new arts education organisation that brings programmes exploring gender equality to schools. Spark aims to empower young people by giving them ownership over these issues and the confidence to speak out through discussion, debate and drama.
It's been really nice to explore different ways in which society may not be equal and do different exercises that have helped me understand how I feel about things. (Student participant)
In the first year of the project Gina will work in a range of schools across London with varying levels of cultural engagement. My target of £500 will cover the cost of six weekly workshops in a comprehensive school in Tottenham, one of the least culturally engaged London boroughs.
I'm totally in awe of Gina's courage and determination to make a change. Running a marathon is a very small thing to do by comparison, but please support me and Gina if you can, to empower the next generation of young people to speak up and speak out.

6 years agoWhat a day. Marathon complete, and undoubtedly the most excruciating few hours I’ve ever endured. I started getting pain in my upper thighs at 15k and there were several moments during the 27k that followed when I thought I couldn’t go on. But all the support for Spark kept me going and I’m so proud to have finished. Thank you SO much everyone who has supported and spurred me on. It really did make all the difference to my race.

6 years agoI was out bright and early this morning for my last long run before the big day in 2 weeks’ time. Feeling much more confident now to have a 30k under my belt. From now on I’ll be doing speed and core training to ensure I’m strong enough to go the extra 12k on the day. And a double celebration now that we’re at 80% of our target!

6 years agoStarting the week as I mean to go on... with 18k before work! This was my first long run since recovering from shingles, so I've got a bit of strength and speed to build up over the next few weeks, but I'm feeling good and especially motivated by all the support that's been flooding in for the campaign. Thank you everyone who has supported so far!
