    Story

Asthma and diabetes is a killer in the Philippines for the poorest. Once diagnosed in the so called “Free Clinics” if you live within the “district” no medicine will be given without a payment of £1.50 for just one inhaler, you leave with no treatment. Without paying for syringes, insulin once diagnosed with diabetes, sudden onset juvenile type1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, it is a death sentence. The cost is £25 a month for daily injections. As Cristita said to me, “we all die, we know we will die very soon because we cannot pay even with health isurance, that pays onlt for the diagnosis and a few days in hosplital, but we have to pay before they will give us insulin or metformin.” She did not know about a blood meter, but within just 6 weeks she died. The small donation I could send offered her n insulin injection once a week. She died a hideously painful death as her daught did everything she could to try tosave her mothers life. She looked like a famine victim and I watch with her daughter,Mae Krista< as she let her las breath die. Crista worked in local council accounts office and had medical insurance, but lost her job after contracting diabetes type 2. She also lost her income, there is no benefit system.

Mae Krista walked the streets, taking in laundry to raise money to feed herself, her 6 year old son Liam and her mother every day. She draws water from the ‘deep well’ in their home to do laundry with soap bar and by hand. At the end of the day Mae’s body is wracked with pain, and breathless from her asthma, she cannot afford to spend £1.50 for an inhaler, that is more than her daily earnings Of 60 filipino pesos. (67psp( filippino pesos) = £1.00).

Mae had to put her mum in a wheelbarrow to take her emaciated mother to the free clinic once a week for medicine, she would go without food. We all know diabetes has to be treated every day with frequent doses of insulin or tablets, metformin or yourblood sugar rises, causing death if not treated. Violent headaches, seizures, coma and death follow within days with multiple organ failure.

Cristita knew she would die, she told me she had lost friends to the violent hideous death caused by diabetes. Babies and young children do not survive born into poverty itis 100% death rate.

Please give to “Cristita and Mae Krista Diabetes and Asthma Fund” in Laoang, Northern Samar in the Philippines‘ Please Please please send money now, save lives, Enable Mae to spread the good news and give treatment to the people on her Island of Northern Samar to stop brutal 100% death rates from Diabetes and Asthma now.... So asily treated here but with “no treatment for the poor” In the Philippines and other 3rd world countries.
