Story
Informed by recent studies regarding student mental health and the positive impact of creativity on wellbeing, we are looking to produce a series of workshops aimed at the local student demographic who are faced with increasing issues in both their domestic and professional lives that can exacerbate mental health issues. These workshops aim to contribute to a greater understanding and awareness of these issues whilst empowering individuals to seek help and support in their communities.
As a participatory arts programme, “Curative Creativity” is led by the idea the act of participation through creative activity can improve mental wellbeing. This is supported by the Creative Health Inquiry Report (2017) which found ‘Arts therapies have been found to alleviate anxiety, depression and stress whilst increasing resilience and wellbeing.” Structured by a series of themes that explore particular issues relating to mental health such as body-image, low self-esteem and social isolation, each peer-led workshop is designed to evoke a sense of support and community through creative and engaging practice.
We want to provide workshops as free for participants to attend as we feel creativity and community should be accessible to everyone however we need your support to make this happen. Much of the work is being produced by young creatives on a voluntarily basis however we are still looking to raise around £150 to cover the costs of producing these workshops.
Funds raised would cover:
- Costs of various arts materials used in workshops
- Rent of Studios/Spaces to host workshops in
- Guest artists and creatives that can offer their expertise and guidance in facilitating workshops
- Refreshments/Food and drink
- Printing costs for information and support packs for participants
Help us create a space that encourages sustainable support for the community and encourages positive wellbeing. Your donations will play an integral role in the development of community and have a direct impact on the wellbeing of local students through a positive, creative outlet.
Thank you.
