Story
I am an Assistant Head Teacher at Hanson Academy in Bradford and I am fundraising for 12 students to travel to Kenya to make a life changing difference in some of the worlds poorest and most in need communities. The students need to fundraise the costs of this expedition which extend to £3740 each.
As such I have pledged to cycle 4645 miles over the next year, the distance from Bradford to Mombasa, Kenya. I am aiming to raise £10 000. All the monies raised will go directly to the students own fundraising.
The expeditions help to challenge the students view of the world, understand the day to day challenges rural communities face, help work on projects which transform communities and help them overcome significant issues they face including access to clean water, education and housing. They also increase student’s self-worth and appreciate the impact just one person can have on the world.
Academic success is just one element of education. That’s why Hanson offer experiences that go beyond the classroom, giving the opportunity to develop key life skills, cultural understanding and a global perspective for an increasingly international 21st century.
We have chosen to work with Camps International in Kenya because they have 15 years experience and pledge to reinvest 36% of the costs into the community, providing housing and welfare to improving water and food security, healthcare and sanitation to education and training. Additionally Camps, with the help of volunteers, removed 15 tonnes of waste from fragile coastlines, planted over a million trees and protected over 130, 000 acres of wildlife reserve. At Hanson, we will be playing a key part in continuing this vital work to help improve Kenya for the future generations.
I would very much hope that you can contribute by sponsoring my efforts to support this project at Hanson Academy.
Thank you.
