On Friday the 15th of March, tropical cyclone “Idai” hit the Eastern districts of Zimbabwe having travelled from Mozambique. The impact of Idai has been devastating. In Zimbabwe, over 98 people have been reported dead and more than 200 missing and these numbers are continuing to rise. Over 20,000 houses have been damaged in the south eastern town of Chipinge alone with over 600 completely damaged. This is only a small fraction of the damage caused.

Many people, children included have had to walk extremly long distances to get to safety, some having to carry bodies of those who have died on their backs as they do so. Homes, schools, shops, doctors surgeries and more have been damaged leaving many with no medical supplies, food, clean water or safe shelter.

The people of Zimbabwe are doing everything that they can to help those affected however due to the cost of medications and toiletries especially, it is difficult. I hope that every person reading this can empathise with the victims and spare some money that will go to people who will appreciate it and also find it extremely helpful in this tine of need.
