    Story

    Hi,

So I know there are many women/couples out there who struggle with infertility and the emotions when the word gets mentioned turns your world around. So let me take you back, in May 2016 at the age of 25 I took my first pregnancy test and it was positive! I was shocked, over-whelmed, but filled with warmth! I told my partner the news and he was also over the moon. This joy suddenly turned into darkness, as I experienced slight bleeding. The hospital said this could be normal as the sac was in my womb and everything was where it should have been. After a couple of days I went back as it continued, the doctor then said it looked as if I suffered a miscarriage as my womb was now empty. I went back to the hospital the next day for checks, and within moments I was rushed to theatre, turns out I had internal bleeding and it was actually an ectopic pregnancy. It was a whirlwind, and before I knew it I woke up to the news that the pregnancy (8 and a half weeks)had ruptured my fallopian tube, and both the pregnancy and my left fallopian tube had been removed. So the experience that you should have when those blue lines appear on the pregnancy test, soon turned me into a person who didn't want to speak to anyone, a person who blamed herself for what had happened, and a person who started to push everyone close to her away.

As time went by, and I started to heal I wanted answers. Two and a half years after I suffered the ectopic pregnancy I finally got referred to a Fertility Clinic. Me and my partner both had tests, even though my partner has a child from a previous relationship we still wanted to make sure everything was ok on both of our parts. My partner got given the all clear, but there was a problem with my remaining fallopian tube. It appeared that scarring had now appeared on it. In January 2019, I underwent a Laparoscopy and dye test for my right tube, to see if the doctors could save and repair it, it was unsuccessful. So at the age of 28, I have been given the news that there is very little chance of me ever conceiving naturally, and if I ever did that it would end up another ectopic as it is the end of my fallopian tube that is blocked, so the egg would get stuck.

As a young person, you think you have the rest of your life to have children and that it will just happen. Well I did anyway. I have been with my partner for over 3 years, we have a house, a pet dog, and I love his son like he is my own. That makes me crave my own child even more. I have grieved, been knocked down, and trying so hard to hold onto  the  little  hope  that  one  day  I  will  be  able  to  hold  my  own  child  in  my  arms,  I  will  not  give  up.

Me  and  my  partner  are  both  going  to  compete  in  running  events  in  the  hope  to  also  raise  money  ourselves.  Because,  my  partner  already  has  a  child  this  excludes  me  from  being  eligible  to  free  NHS  -  IVF  Funding.  I  will  not  sit  on  my  back  side  and  expect  donations  as  I  know  everyone  in  life  goes  through  something,  and  it  is  just  to  make  us  stronger,  but  sometimes  all we need is a little help.

    D  &  J  x
