    Story

I ran the London Marathon in record breaking heat for MIND last year, this year I am doing the Paris Marathon, to support my partners Charitable Foundation. www.dahliafoundation.org

Sara set up Dahlia Foundation after travelling to Greece several times at the peak of the refugee crisis. She would work up to 20 hours a day to rescue refugees arriving on the shores of Lesvos at night and provide aid to the camps during the day.

During this time, she witnessed many vulnerable children with injuries sustained in bombings, heavily pregnant women and babies just a few days old arriving in boats. Having seen first hand the poor living conditions within the camps and the dangers of traffickers preying on women and children, she decided to set up a foundation to help some of these families off the streets and camps and into safe, clean accommodation.

Since setting up the foundation, she has provided accommodation to over 30 vulnerable refugee families living in Greece and Turkey, she has paid for several lifesaving medical treatments for refugee children and worked in collaboration with other grassroot organisations to support refugee children in receiving ongoing medical treatment. Last year alone she helped 6 families who were found sleeping in the street of Athens, with either the mother a few days away from giving birth or with a newborn baby, unable to even go to a camp as they were full.

Today she is continues to raise money to pay for the accommodation that she provides to young refugee families. She is also working with another organisation to open another medical house in Turkey, which will provide a home to 5 families who have children being treated with cancer. It will enable the child to return to a safe, clean environment to rest after their chemotherapy instead of a camp or give a terminally ill child a dignified environment for them to spend their final moments with their family.
