    Story

Mary Short is findraising for our daughter Daisy by taking part in the Race My Pace in May to do 50 miles.

Our daughter Daisy was born in June 2010 after complications at birth Daisy suffered brain damage and as a result now has Athetoid Dystonic Cerebral Palsy. Daisy can be treated by therapy at The Bobath Centre in London a therapy that could mean the difference in hopefully walking, talking and many other activities. But the therapy is not readily available on the NHS and each two week therapy session including Travel and Accommodation costs around £6000.00.

Our aim is to organise events and raise as much money as possible to enable us to continue Daisy's therapy at the Bobath Centre, explore other therapies such as extra private speech therapy which is very strained on the NHS, and also purchase extra equipment such as wheelchairs, ramps, and special needs buggy's to enable Daisy to lead a full and happy life and allow her to reach her full potential in life and to give her the best opportunity at becoming independent.

We currently raise funds for travel and accommodation costs for our visit to The Bobath Centre in London, which we visit for a two week block every 6 months. The accommodation costs anything between £1600.00 to £2000.00 for the two weeks depending on the time of year and availability. We have been lucky enough to have the actual therapy from the Bobath Centre funded by the NHS so far apart from one, but as Daisy reaches the age of 8 this will not always be the case and we will then need to fund the therapy ourselves at a cost of £4000.00 for a two week therapy block.

We also have a private physiotherapist that visits Daisy at a cost of £70.00 per session and a private Speech and Language Therapist who visits every three weeks at a cost of £100.00 per session. To keep up with these two sessions of Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy this costs approx. £3520.00 per year.

But this year we have an even bigger target of £20000.00 to purchase a stand and sit electric wheelchair, it is a wheelchair which enables the user to stand up as well as sit.

We are also keen to try out new and alternative therapies such as Therasuit Therapy and equipment, and some equipment is not always funded by the NHS.
